28 August 2010:
Just a small piece of history about the River Dochart from my Dad's WW2 memoirs soon to be published by Pen and Sword. He was wounded soon after D-Day and spent part of his recuperation at Killin, where he met a girl named Mary Wiseman ...
"That was the last time I saw the first love of my life and I havent forgotten how fate sent me to Scotland, a land of beauty, with lovely Scots lasses.
After the bus had left I walked slowly back over the bridge and past the fast flowing river Dochart. I was enjoying the meander back to Auchmore and it gave me time to contemplate the events which had taken place since I went to Dundee. I stood for a while, my thoughts in turmoil about Mary. It had been the first time I had been so close to a girl and I felt a little unsure yet, given all the circumstances, I was of the opinion that I had behaved in a proper manner. I could have so easily pursued this friendship, but the war was still on and I knew I would be going back to my battalion, so this was no time to be thinking of girls. Turning left off the main road out of the village and walking down the wooded lane, I remained a little sad and in deep thought, until I saw the nurses at Auchmore. It was my birthday, 25 August."
